The golf followed the same time honoured itinerary with informal golf on Friday afternoon, an 18 Hole Stableford on Saturday morning for the Birkdale Bucket and the Sunday morning foursomes all played on the fabulous Hotchkin course.
For the team Bucket event, Pocklington managed 134 points (Tim Russell (68-78) 38, Jonathan Rosendale (70-78) 34, Mike Strong (66-76) 32 and Larry Lawson (70-77) 30) tying them in second place with Oundle. Although well behind runaway winners Giggleswick 143, Pocklington were well ahead of several good schools including Sedbergh, Uppingham, Wrekin, Workshop and Stowe. It was encouraging to have one new player Dale Pollard (71-76) 28 and sadly, Dave Morgan (68-75) had some injuries on the day. Unfortunately, some of Pocklington’s stalwarts were unavailable this year.
For the foursomes on the Sunday, Pocklington’s best place was with Larry Lawson who was 4th.
Woodhall Spa is generally regarded as the top inland course in the world and overall ranked 62, so it is a privilege to play it all weekend.
The dates for 2021 are Friday 19-21st March and anyone with a handicap of 24 or better would enjoy the challenge. Please contact Rachel Dare in the OP office or Mike Strong if you are interested in playing.
